Commemorative Ceremony and Wreath Laying honoring Juan Rodríguez
Cabrillo (Joao Rodrigues Cabrilho) at Cabrillo National Monument,
San Diego's
National Park. Keynote address by Joseph Sanchez, Ph. D., National
Park Service Historian and Superintendent of the Spanish Colonial
Research Center and Petroglyph National Monument in Albuquerque,
New Mexico. Band
concert by Navy Band Southwest and Kumeyaay wildcat songs by Jon Meza
Cuero
and the Aukas. Please note that beginning Sunday, September 6, 2009,
there
will no longer be weekend bus service to Cabrillo National Monument.

Cabrillo Discovery Celebration Dinner-Dance, S.E.S. Hall, 281 8 Avenida
de Portugal, Point Loma. 6:00 PM no host cocktails, 7:00 PM Dinner,
followed by dancing. $40.00 per person. Sponsored by Cabrillo

SUNDAY, SEPT. 27, 11:00 AM — 3:30

Cabrillo Festival at Ballast Point, Naval Base Point Loma, south
end of Rosecrans Street. FREE ADMISSION. There will be music, dancing,
children’s activities and foods of Native Americans, Mexico,
Portugal and Spain. Kumeyaay basket making and acorn preparation
demonstrations, knot tying and 16th century Spanish soldiers living
history encampment. Re-enactment of Cabrillo’s landing on Ballast
Point begins at 1:00 PM narrated by San Diego TV personality Jack
White.
